Dice 1 medium onion. Cook in oil until soft.
Add 500g mince, and cook until brown. Pour off any excess fat.
Mix together:
– 1 cup water or beef stock
– ½ tsp curry powder
– 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (or soy sauce)
– 1 tsp mustard
– 1 tbsp tomato sauce
– salt (omit if using beef stock)
Add to mince and stir until boiling.
Simmer for 30-45 minutes.
Thicken with cornflour or flour and cook for another 2 minutes.
You can use this mince recipe as the base for a number of different meals:
Shepherd's pie: top with mashed potato and a little cheese, then bake in oven.
Mince pies: spoon into puff pastry cases and bake – especially easy in a pie maker or toastie maker.
Mince on toast: serve on toast, with mashed potato and peas/beans/carrots.
Sloppy Joes: serve in a hamburger bun or thick bread slices
