"Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching." Hebrews 10:23-25 (NIV)
We are a people of community – created by God to live in fellowship with Him and one another. Consequently, we desire to be social, to connect with others, to share our lives and encourage one another. This means that circumstances we currently find ourselves in can seem very hard, as we are cut off from the support of others. Perhaps we are left feeling lonely at home; or overwhelmed by the thought of several weeks managing household and family without outside support and help. We can easily feel disconnected and lost when our usual ways of communicating and connecting suddenly change.
BCC is a community of believers, united in Christ, and the hope we profess. Even though we are not physically together, we can still meet up with each other by phone, email and internet. We can continue to encourage one another, and be loving, supportive and unified in spirit – through our prayers, communication, and corporate activity.
This website can be somewhere to connect, share encouragement, and support one another and our wider community, as we "spur one another on toward love and good deeds".
We plan to post here several times every day over this intense isolation period, so do make it part of your new routine to check in with us, comment, or contribute. Feel free to share the link with anyone who might find it helpful. We also encourage all BCC members to contribute content – whatever your age or life stage. You could organise a virtual group to plan content together, set a home-school project for the family, or start researching a topic that has always interested you. Try your hand at craft or writing, and let us know how you get on. Share your testimony or reflections on a Bible passage. Come up with some ideas for family activities at home. Whatever it is, we encourage you to get creative!
The more contributions we have, the more we can support and encourage those around us, and keep connected. Contributions can be emailed to ourbccblog@gmail.com
These are the sorts of things we need you to contribute:
Devotionals – Scripture passages, meditations, words of encouragement, prayers
Recipes – particularly things we can make using standard pantry items or easily obtained ingredients
Activities for kids and families to do at home with limited resources or space
Creative writing – poems, short stories and other creative works
Artwork – send in your art photography, scans of your artwork or photos of your sculptural and model creations
Essays or articles – Do you have a passion for gardening? Do you know a lot about 14th century Russian martyrs, early English pottery, or methods of agriculture in the Congo? Are you an avid bird watcher, model railway enthusiast, or amateur local historian? Whatever your passion or interest, we want your articles or essays! You could set your family a research project for the week, and email us the final product.
Tips and ideas – If you have any great ideas about how to manage your house, cleaning, gardening, cooking, looking after family members, parenting, avoid boredom, keep fit, cope with home schooling or entertaining children...or anything else useful, then let us know.
Interviews with church members – email or phone someone from the church directory, and find out what makes them tick, or what they remember from their childhood, or what/who had the most impact on their life… Write it up in magazine interview format for a post (you will need to get their permission first).
Testimonies – tell us about when and how you became a Christian, or something (or someone) that really impacted your spiritual life. Share something encouraging with others.
How-to instructions for home projects, hobbies and games – Can you teach us to crochet? Build a card tower? Make a game with random bits of household items? We want to hear from you!
Book / movie reviews – especially things that can be accessed on-line
Isolation Diary – Tell us about what your family is doing to stay safe, stay home...and stay sane. How do you manage your day? What do you do to keep the family engaged, active and on good terms with each other? What do you find works best (and what doesn’t?) How do you stay connected with people outside your bubble? Share your story.
Note that all contributions must be original content – nothing copied from elsewhere (unless in the public domain, or under “fair use” e.g. small quotes which need attribution). Any pictures you supply must be original, or open source (please let us know when you send them).
The content should always be family-friendly, encouraging and supportive. Please avoid politics, controversy, speculation, and medical advice (general healthy living and fitness ideas are ok).
Please also remember that this is a publicly viewable site, so please don’t include names, photographs or details of people without their permission.
This site is currently managed by Kirsty and Caitlin. If you would like to join our editorial team, or take responsibility for providing specific content, then do get in touch – we won't be able to manage all this on our own!
Looking forward to seeing what we can all do together!
